Functional Vision Assessments
Our most comprehensive examination - the functional assessment leads to a true understanding of an individuals visual world.
This is a 2 hour assessment - often broken down into 2x 1 hour sessions on different days as it can be a very tiring process.
£250 inc. an in-depth written report
Vision Therapy
Vision therapy is done in session either weekly or fortnightly.
Each session is customised and last 30-45 minutes.
This can be done in the practise or at your own home.
Vision therapy can only be offered after a full functional vision assesment. Within the report it will detail what to expect from therapy and an approximate length of course.
Coloured Overlay Assessment
You may have been recommended to seek an optometrist who can prescribed coloured overlays or colour-tinted glasses. Our professional guidelines do recommend that a person should have a full binocular vision assessment first. As such the testing of coloured overlays and relevant reading speed tests are incorporated into the full functional assessment alongside a battery of binocular vision assessments.
If you should wish to have an assessment for coloured lenses or filters please do get in touch.
Sight test
If you or your child have not had an eye test before or are overdue, make an appointment for an eye test first. During a sight test, each eye has a comprehensive health check and a spectacle prescription is determined, if needed.
You may be able to claim an NHS funded eye test, for example for a child under 16 years, up to 19 years if in full time education or if you are over 60.
If further testing is required this can then be discusse.
Contact lenses
Most people can wear contact lenses. There are lots of different types for all sorts of eyes.
Age is not a barrier to contact lens wear. Very young children can wear them if they are necessary. For young children with a passion for sports they can be a real benefit.
For many children contact lenses are advisable. For example, if the prescription is very different between the two eyes
Myopia Control
Regular eye test are even more important for children whose parent(s) are short-sighted (or near-sighted). This is because they are at an increased risk of becoming short sighted. The earlier a child becomes short sighted the higher the risk of related eye diseases. The good news is that there are a number of options to control the progression of short sightedness to minimise those risks.
There are spectacles lenses, contact lenses and drops that are proven to help. Vision therapy is also an option.

Please get in touch if you would like to arrange a school visit. I am happy to talk to staff about what we do, why and what to look out for.
I am also happy to provide resources to give out to your parents
I am also happy to come and do a presentation to the children about what an optician is and how to look after the eyes. Goody bags can be arranged.
Ask an Optometrist
I have had a Facebook page for many years. I invite anyone to ask anything about their eyes or their eye test and I will help as much as I can.
It occurred to me that many people are anxious about having their eyes tested and I want to do something to ease their nerves. It should be a comfortable experience. During the appointment I am happy to answer as many questions as you like as we go through.
Many times I have people asking me about the results of their eye test elsewhere. Whilst I cannot diagnose online or comment on someone else's professional opinion, I realise that you may have been given a lot of information and that you have gone home to process.
